A Note from Laura

A Note from Laura

Is something telling you it’s time for a change? That voice is not always loud, but it is persistent! My name is Laura Walsh and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who has made her life’s work  helping people create a life they love through personal and transformative change.  I am a person-centered therapist who employs evidence-based, brief, and solution-focused techniques to spark needed change in the lives of my clients. My areas of expertise are mood disorders, anxiety and worry, substance abuse disorders, problems with self-esteem, codependency and other communication/relationship issues. Additionally, I have found that many seeking help with these types of problems are actually dealing with the emotional fall out of traumas large and small. This, in turn, has resulted in a special focus on trauma resolution in my practice.

Trauma Recovery

Trauma Recovery

When we think of trauma, we often imagine catastrophic, “newsworthy” events, but traumas come in all shapes and sizes. Those suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress are often incredibly resilient people who have decided to ignore these events and just keep walking – telling themselves they should be able to forget it or just get over it.  They often ARE able to function this way for a time– but find they cannot continue this way forever.  Others have experienced a single life-changing trauma or loss, and feel they have lost their internal map to the rest of their lives. Trauma shows up in our dreams, feelings of loneliness and isolation, increased reactivity, intrusive memories that don’t seem to fade, sadness, guilt, and/or anxiety we cannot seem to escape.  Some become hopeless when traditional “talk therapy” methods do not seem to help for any length of time.  Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR), as well as Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) are brief, focused, evidence-based treatments for discrete and complex traumas. Each offers something different for the client, but both are highly effective. Research shows that recovery from trauma is not only possible but can create increased strength and resilience!

I would be happy to meet with you to discuss your personal goals, what motivates you, and the treatment options that are available to you.

You can do this.

I am a person-centered therapist. What this means to you is that I will provide a safe, accepting, and motivational environment for you to find your own way, and will go with you through every step of your journey. Change is for everyone, and you don’t have to do it alone.    -Laura
